Apple and Black Currant Crumble Bars Recipe

Serves 12

Try these delicious Apple and Black Currant Crumble Bars! They will surely be a hit!


  • 1 1/3 Cup
    plain (all-purpose) flour
  • 1 Teaspoon
    baking powder
  • 1 Pinch
  • 3/4 Cups
    butter, cubed and softened
  • 1 Cup
    soft brown sugar
  • 1 Cup
    rolled oats
  • 1 Pound
    cooking (tart) apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons
  • 2 Teaspoons
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 Teaspoon
    grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 Teaspoon
    ground allspice
  • 1 Cup
    CurrantC™ Dried Black Currants


  1. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt.

  2. Stir in the sugar and oats.

  3. Add butter into flour mixture and combine with a dough blender or 2 butter knives.

  4. Spoon half of flour mixture into the base of a greased and parchment lined 9 inch square cake pan.

  5. Mix the apples, cornstarch and spices and spread over.

  6. Top with CurrantC™ Dried Black Currants.

  7. Spoon over the remaining flour mixture and level the top.

  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30 minutes until springy.

  9. Leave to cool, then cut into bars.
